ABOUT THE MUSIC
Lili Vélez is a singer with a universal yet unique individual style. She discovered her voice at the age of 12 -when she won a contest with the most important radio station of the capital at that time, and recorded for the first time-, and continued singing through her youth exploring the genres of rock, blues and funk, but her musical career started much later when she moved to Mexico city.
In order to understand the language of music, she enrolled at Academia de Música Fermatta and later on, explored the subject of Jazz for vocalists at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, England.
When she returned to Mexico city, persuaded by a jazz connoisseur she took a shot at the best club in town and the result was her refreshing cross-over project Lili´s Jazz Monsters.
Backed by some of the best jazz musicians of her generation, she began singing in all the jazz venues of México city such as Zinco Jazz Club, El Convite, Centro Nacional de las ARtes, The Polak Forum, just to name a few, but with her debut album I´m just a lucky so and so, she spread her music to the rest of country.
Her talent has been recognized and she´s been invited to perform at numerous events such as Festival Internacional Cervantino, Festival Internacional de Jazz de verano México-Canadá, Festival Internacional Tamaulipas, Centro Cultural Tijuana, Festival Jazzeando, among others.
Although relatively new to the genre when she recorded, Lili gives traditional jazz a special flavour, in which she mixes some great standards with tasty musical pieces of her own and a pinch of delicious variations of alternative-rock covers creating a very unique project .

ABOUT THE VOICE
Due to a personal experience as a child, Lili has devoted many years to the exploration of the voice as a vehicle to self-expression and healing. Studies of contemporary dance, Gestalt, core energetics and yoga have given Lili a deeper and more meaningful way to know the body and the many elements involved when VOICING the self.
More than an academic technique or the study of a particular style, her first interest was trying to regain the voice´s natural freedom and its power.
“For me, the voice is the sonic expression of the soul –with all that is human- and that is already deep and complex but above all, unique, no matter what I sing. For me, there lies the real beauty”.

ABOUT OTHERS
On a private level, she has given workshops and individual sessions to explore, express and free the voice.
She also co-directs an international music school mainly for children and teenagers.

With her new record, Lili´s giving a percentage of its sales to HOSPITAL PEDIATRICO DE SINALOA in which kids with cancer from the northeast of the country, go to find a cure and heal.
